Edward R.Pressman, ¨Président of the 24th TIFF Jury

A press conference was held last week at the Movie Café  (Roppongi Hills,Hillside, Tokyo) with the President and other members of the 24th TIFF competition jury.


   

Edward R. Pressman has produced over eighty world-class motion pictures and helped launch the careers of the most prominent figures in the industry. His extensive body of work includes groundbreaking films by directors such as Oliver Stone, Terrence Malick, Sam Raimi, David Byrne, Kathryn Bigelow, Alex Proyas, Brian De Palma, David Mamet, Abel Ferrara, David Gordon Green, Jason Reitman, Zhang Yimou and Werner Herzog.

Pressman is dedicated to producing quality theatrical motion pictures like Wall Street and its sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Thank You for Smoking, The Crow, American Psycho, Conan the Barbarian, Bad Lieutenant, Reversal of Fortune and Badlands. He continues his thirty-year tradition of forging new territory in both the independent and Hollywood arenas with the upcoming films, The Moth Diaries directed by Mary Harron, a re-invention of The Crow, a Louis Armstrong bio-pic to be directed by and starring Forest Whitaker, and Bloodsport to be directed by Phillip Noyce.

Kees Kasander (Producer)    

Kees Kasander is one of Europe's most prolific producers and the winner of 4 Golden Calf awards and in 2010 he won an Outstanding British Film Award at BAFTA for the film Fish Tank. He has produced over 100 films in an illustrious career in film and television, among which 5 of Peter Greenaways'Kasander is a member of the European Producers Club and works through his company Kasander Film, based in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

 

 

 

 

 


 Fan Bingbing (Actress)

 

Fan was born in Qingdao, Shandong, and raised in Yantai, Shandong. She graduated from Shanghai Xie Jin's Star School and Shanghai Theatre Academy.

 

In 1997, Fan rose to stardom for her supporting role as Jin Suo in the Taiwanese television sitcom Princess Pearl and its sequel in 1998, which starred Zhao Wei and Ruby Lin in the leading roles. Over the next few years, through appearances in many films and television dramas, she became one of the more well-known actresses in mainland China. After achieving success in her acting career, Fan also released albums, posed for magazine covers and became a spokesperson for several commercial brands.

 

In 2007, Fan started her own studio, Fan Bingbing Workshop (范冰冰工作室). The studio's first television production was Rouge Snow, followed by Jin Da Ban De Zuihou Yiye in 2008. Fan started an arts school in Huairou, Beijing, and served as its principal, but the school was actually run by her parents. She also became the leader of the acting team of West Movie Group (西影集团)'s arts center, and was popularly referred to as "China's Monica Bellucci".

 

In 2010, Fan was ranked 10th in the Forbes China Celebrity 100. She also appeared on the Shanghai International Film Festival's red carpets that year. Fan also appeared on the 63rd Cannes Film Festival's red carpet.

 

In 2011, Fan's popularity in China rose due to her performances in the films Shaolin and Buddha Mountain[3. In the same year, Fan ranked 9th in the Forbes China Celebrity 100. She also appeared again on the 64th Cannes Film Festival's red carpet and promoted her new film My Way together with the director and other main cast members.

Masahiro Kobayashi (Film Director)

 

 Kobayashi Masahiro (小林 政広,  is a Japanese film director.He began his career as a folk singer, and then turned to scriptwriting. A great admirer of François Truffaut, he directed his first feature, Closing Time, in 1996 and in 1997 became the first Japanese filmmaker to win the Grand Prize at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival. In its wake, he founded Monkey Town Productions and made three films back to back which won prizes in three consecutive years at Cannes: Kaizokuban Bootleg Film (1999) and Man Walking on Snow (2001) in Un Certain Regard and Koroshi (2000) in the Directors' Fortnight. In 2003, Perfect Education 5: Amazing Story, enchanted Locarno with a discreet love story set against a backdrop of solitude, snow and desolation. Screened in competition at Cannes in 2005, Bashing received critical acclaim and won the Grand Prix at Tokyo Filmex and a Special Jury Prize at the Teheran Festival. Kobayashi has also written screenplays for erotic films and directed The Happiness in 2006.
